Who this notice covers

This notice applies to CatHappens at cathappens.com.

What stays in your browser

The game uses local storage to remember a randomly generated anonymous identifier, your personal best, daily and weekly best scores, games played, and sound and music preferences. It also remembers which clips you have watched so future visits can prioritise unseen videos.

This information is not an account or a public player profile. We do not send the local identifier, saved scores, or watched-clip history to our server. The current run’s predictions are held in memory while you play.

What reaches our server

Your browser requests the website, clip information and media files. When you answer, it sends the clip ID and selected option so the server can check the answer and return the reveal video. We process that request but do not save individual guesses or a player guess history in our database.

The game does not require your name, email address or login. It does not currently load advertising scripts. The site keeps a small aggregate visitor count using a one-way hash of the anonymous browser identifier already stored for game preferences; it does not store IP addresses, names, or individual visits.

Hosting and technical information

The site runs on Amazon Web Services in Ohio, United States. Cloudflare provides domain and DNS services. Network providers necessarily process connection information, which can include IP addresses and technical request details, to deliver and protect their services. Our application does not store visitor IP addresses, and our website access logging is disabled. Providers may keep their own operational or security records under their policies.

Advertising and cookies

CatHappens is preparing for Google AdSense. At present, the site publishes ownership-verification information only. This does not load Google’s ad script, request ads, or set advertising cookies.

If advertising is enabled later, we will update this notice and configure the applicable consent controls first. Google and other participating advertising providers may then use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads based on visits to this and other sites. Google explains its practices at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services; personalised-ad preferences can be managed in My Ad Center.

Your choices and retention

Local game data remains in your browser until you clear it or your browser removes it. Watched-clip history is limited to 5,000 clip entries. To reset the game’s stored information, clear site data for cathappens.com in your browser settings. This also removes saved scores and preferences. Blocking local storage can prevent the game from remembering progress.

If you email us, your email provider and ours process the message. We use the information you send to respond to your enquiry or investigate the reported issue. We retain correspondence while needed to handle the matter and any applicable recordkeeping obligations. You can ask about or request deletion of correspondence through our contact address.

Changes to this notice

We will update this page when the site’s data practices change, including when advertising is introduced. The date above identifies the latest update.
